Installation complete at Loyne Dam

A significant infrastructure upgrade has been completed at Loyne Dam, following the installation of a 60-inch hollow jet dispersal valve, accompanying air vent pipework, and a 4m diameter dispersal hood engineered to manage high‑volume water flow. The project marks a major achievement for AJT Engineering, delivered through close collaboration between its Site Services Division and its Fabrication Division.

The project, spanning just over twelve months from concept to completion, involved the full design and manufacture of the specialist valve system. One of the most striking components, the 4‑metre‑diameter dispersal hood, required an escorted transport operation from Germany to the UK due to its size.

To support the combined weight of the valve assembly, which totalled approximately 25 tonnes, bespoke support frames were designed by Envision and fabricated in‑house by AJT Engineering. This integration of design and fabrication ensured precision, alignment, and structural integrity for the equipment on site.

Before installation could begin, the existing valve was carefully removed, and the internal 60-inch dam pipe, extending roughly six metres upstream to the isolation valve, was fully prepared and repainted. The new valve and associated ancillaries were then lifted into position using a 90-tonne crane, allowing the team to manoeuvre the heavy components safely and accurately within the confined dam environment.

The on‑site phase of the project was completed over a four‑week period, during which AJT Engineering’s Site Services Division coordinated all mechanical works, lifting operations, and final commissioning. The project also highlights our Fabrication Division’s capabilities, which played a key role in producing the structural elements required to support the installation.

This successful upgrade enhances the long‑term reliability and operational control of water flow at Loyne Dam, demonstrating our capability to deliver large‑scale, technically demanding infrastructure projects from design through to installation.
