AJT Engineering Successfully Completes Rannoch ASCV Installation for SSE Renewables

AJT Engineering is pleased to announce the successful completion and commissioning of the Rannoch ASCV (Automatic Shut-off Control Valve) installation, a major hydro infrastructure upgrade delivered for SSE Renewables. This milestone project highlights AJT’s integrated capabilities across engineering, fabrication, and site services.

The project involved the full replacement of legacy spool sections and the installation of three DN1200 ASCV butterfly valves, supplied by AJT’s trusted valve partner, VAG Group. The work was carried out at Rannoch Power Station, a key asset in Scotland’s renewable energy network.

Integrated Project Execution

AJT Engineering delivered the project through a coordinated effort across its core divisions:

  • Engineering Division: Manufactured high-integrity carbon steel ASCV spools, incorporating precision subarc welding to meet hydrostatic pressure and dimensional requirements and final machining of the spool ends to meet the angular and dimensional accuracy of the joining faces.
  • Fabrication Division: Completed spool fabrication with full NDT and QA/QC documentation, ensuring readiness for site installation.
  • Site Services Division: Executed on-site removal of existing spools, installation of new units, and pressure testing to confirm system integrity and compliance.

The installation required precision alignment and torque-controlled bolting of the butterfly valves to ensure leak-free operation under dynamic flow conditions.

Client Endorsement & Leadership Engagement

The project received commendation from Chris Davidson, Hydro Renewables Engineer at SSE, who praised the professionalism and collaborative spirit of the AJT team. His positive feedback was shared publicly on LinkedIn.

In recognition of the project’s significance, the AJT Engineering Board visited the site to monitor progress and engage with the delivery team. The visit was documented in a post by Camellia Plc, AJT’s parent company, available here.

Commitment to Renewable Infrastructure

This project reinforces AJT Engineering’s role as a trusted partner in the modernisation of Scotland’s hydroelectric infrastructure. By combining engineering precision, fabrication expertise, and on-site execution, AJT continues to support the resilience and efficiency of renewable energy assets across the region.
